Family Photos

This is a series I’ve been working on to bring new life and visibility to my families old photographs. In an effort to keep these images around for future generations to see, I’ve tasked myself with digitizing and restoring as many of them as possible before anything happens to the originals.

I start the process by scanning each image in at 900dpi to blow them up to their highest quality and then do extensive work in Photoshop to remove dust, scratches, and any other blemishes along with some general exposure and color adjustments. I then send the image to my phone and run it through an app called Remini, which uses machine learning to artificially enhance the faces of each person in the photo. I bring the image back into Photoshop and blend the enhanced and original images together to my liking. Lastly, I colorize the image by hand and do my final export.

Once I have a large enough collection of restorations, I hope to create a book that can then be shared throughout my family and passed down to generations to come.
